If you're lucky in life you have at least one good friend. I've been very fortunate to have several, and am deeply grateful to them all. Really though, who can resist my charm? The three boys above (one of which is stuck with me til death parts us), are my bright lights. The Wizard of Oz has always terrified me, but I have a good inkling to how fortunate Dorothy must have felt.
I think we all need people in our life who enjoy the simple things. People who will go for a walk, have a picnic, or a game night. People who will let you prance around in ruby red slippers all along the yellow brick road. The folks you can laugh with about the silly, and there's no pressure to be anything other than your goofy old self. The people who are so easy to be around they become like family. Except they are family that you like. Ah, I jest, I jest...
Doug and I are rather intense people. We're not particularly skilled in the art of relaxation. Even as an unemployed waif at present, I'm still remarkably uptight. I don't let my guard down easily, so it is a true testament that I am able to be at ease around these two. I've often been described as someone who should never meet a coffee bean.
We all need heros in our lives, and sometimes the most unlikely heros appear. Sometimes all we need to save us is a giggle and a grin, and if they happen to know the way to Oz all the better! Good friends can change our whole world. Today I salute my good friends, particularly the three strange birds above. Not only do they let me win at game night, but they never bat an eyelash when I serve dessert in my pj's.
